10. THEATER: The Boomerang Effect
A same-sex marriage faces the ultimate test in this new comedy from playwright Matthew Leavitt, whom Del Shores describes as "an exciting new voice in the theater." Out actor Jonathan Slavin (pictured above right with Emerson Collins) stars in this sexy look at relationships that runs through April 29 at L.A.'s Odyssey Theatre.
9. FILM: The Hunger Games
Lesbian icon potential is clear in Winter's Bone's gorgeous Jennifer Lawrence, who surpasses expectations as resourceful heroine Katniss Everdeen in this immensely entertaining adaptation of the first book in Suzanne Collins's popular trilogy. Dedicated gay-straight alliance advocate Josh Hutcherson (above), already a fave due to his turn in The Kids Are All Right, should also anticipate adding legions of new admirers for his performance as love-struck Peeta.
8. DVD: Eating Out: The Open Weekend/Jitters
John Waters vet Mink Stole, Gun Hill Road's Harmony Santana, and a bevy of horny twinks help make The Open Weekend, the fifth installment in director Allan Brocka's Eating Out series of sex comedies, perhaps the raunchiest yet. Fans of the torrid British version of the TV drama Skins will enjoy Jitters, a gay-themed Icelandic coming-of-age tale based on a popular series of novels. Watch the trailer for Jittershere.
7. MUSIC: "Trust Me," Matt Zarley
"Trust Me" is yet another irresistible disco anthem from out performer Zarley's latest album, Change Begins With Me. Check out the remixes here. In the track's video, due April 3, Zarley will deal with presidential politics, sex scandals, homosexuality, and social and self-acceptance.
6. THEATER: Deathtrap
Dark humor offers a welcome respite from the chills when a famous Broadway playwright who has murder on his mind dallies with a dashing young writer in this Best Play Tony-winner from Ira Levin, author of Rosemary's Baby and The Stepford Wives. This reportedly sexier version of the classic thriller begins previews March 28 and runs through May 6 at West Hollywood's Celebration Theatre.
5. EVENT: The Dinah
Look out, Palm Springs! The ladies are about to descend on the California desert oasis for five days of revelry that will include performances by Nina Sky, hip-hop artist Rye Rye, and former Pussycat Doll Jessica Sutta; a Q&A with actress Meredith Baxter (above) moderated by comic Suzanne Westenhoefer; and endless pool parties. March 28-April 1. For more information, go to TheDinah.com.
4. MUSIC: Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection, Katy Perry
A half-dozen smash singles later, Katy Perry releases a deluxe version of her blockbuster album (out March 26) that includes her latest hit, "Part of Me," a new version of "E.T." featuring Kanye West, "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" featuring Missy Elliott, a moving acoustic version of "The One That Got Away," and a seven-minute Tommie Sunshine megamix featuring all six number 1 hits.
3. FESTIVAL: Fusion
Precious director Lee Daniels will present Noah's Arc creator Patrik-Ian Polk with the prestigious Fusion Achievement Award at the ninth annual Los Angeles LGBT People of Color Film Festival. Other highlights in this year's lineup include the world premiere of Polk's latest film, The Skinny, and a sing-along to the semi-classic 1976 musical Car Wash (above). Fusion begins today and runs through March 24. For more information, go to Outfest.org/Fusion.
2. TV: Mad Men
Even with Bryan Batt's closeted Sal character nowhere in sight, LGBT viewers will still tune into the Madison Avenue-set drama for the richly nuanced performances of Jon Hamm, Christina Hendricks, and Elisabeth Moss as Don, Joan, and Peggy, respectively, as they navigate the changing mores of the tumultuous 1960s. After an absence of 17 months, Matthew Weiner's riveting drama begins its fifth season on AMC March 25.
1. MUSIC: MDNA, Madonna
As she sings in the pumping first track, "Girls, they just want to have some fun," and so Madonna returns (not that she ever left you) to the gay party with her strongest album in nearly a decade (out March 26). MDNA is also one of M.'s most introspective with the gentle Golden Globe-winning ballad "Masterpiece" and "Love Spent," a bluegrass-infused stinger that appears to ruminate on her 2008 split from director Guy Ritchie. Also, for the first time, the iconic performer will chat with Facebook fans March 24. To participate go here.
