The city of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., has started a PR campaign to attract more gay and lesbian police officers to its force, the Sun-Sentinel reported Monday. "I wouldn't mind seeing more openly gay officers at the department,'' Det. Brice Brittenum--the newly installed gay and lesbian outreach official--told the newspaper. The department will also set up a booth during the city's Pridefest. "I think that would be great for the department and the community.'' Brittenum, 24, added, "We hope to send a positive message to the community that we're not going to turn our backs on any group." (Advocate.com)
