The city council had opposed the event for two years
The city council in Los Altos, Calif., on Wednesday said it would allow a gay pride parade by the city's gay teens on June 4, the San Jose Mercury News reports. The downtown event, which will include floats, bands, and other local gay youth groups, has been opposed by the council for two years.
The council has gone back and forth on whether to support requests for Gay Pride Day resolutions brought to it by the Los Altos High School gay-straight alliance. This year the council moved to preclude any more discussion about resolutions, banning further consideration of any involving sexual orientation. The move ignited months of publicity--mostly negative and receiving attention far beyond Los Altos. In the end, the city council offered a parade permit and approved it unanimously. (The Advocate)
