Two undercover New York City police officers arrested a man on hate-crime charges Monday who, they say, assumed the cops were gay and proceeded to threaten and harass them.

Tyrone George, 20, approached the cops sitting on a bench in Union Square Park and screamed that he hated "homos" and "faggots" and gave the sergeant the middle finger, the New York Post reported the authorities as saying. George later returned to the cops to continue his hateful invective and then threatened to assault them and spat on the sergeant's foot, police said.

Though the officers purposefully exaggerated their relationship by snuggling, they were in the park primarily to curb local violence from gangs and students from nearby Washington Irving High School as well as the Union Square subway station. (The Advocate)
