Just as soon as the Associated Press began reporting that Hillary Rodham Clinton will concede Tuesday night and that Barack Obama has the delegates to secure the Democratic nomination, the Clinton campaign fired off e-mails rejecting the claim.

The AP said the former first lady would stop short of formally suspending or ending her race in her speech in New York City and she would continue to speak out on issues like health care. But for all intents and purposes, two senior officials said, the campaign is over and the campaign staff would be let go and would be paid through June 15, according to AP reports.

The Clinton camp followed AP reports with an official campaign e-mail reading simply, "The AP story is incorrect. Senator Clinton will not concede the nomination this evening." (The Advocate, with additional reporting from the AP)
