Controversial influencer Clavicular, who quickly rose to fame as the poster child for “looksmaxxing,” a subculture devoted to maximizing attractiveness using extreme measures, has been charged with illegally shooting a dead alligator in the latest in a long list of criminal charges, allegations, and public embarrassments.
The 20-year-old manosphere figure, whose real name is Braden Peters, skyrocketed to fame earlier this year as his Kick channel blew up and he was profiled by major publications like The New York Times and GQ, but his life seems to be falling apart just as quickly.
Peters earned $100,000 in January alone from streaming on Kick, where he now has over 300,000 followers. He also opened a bar in Florida and has repeatedly gone viral for the dangerous steps he’ll take to change his appearance.
Fame started to slip through his fingers when he landed in the hospital after a suspected overdose during a livestream. Around the same time, he walked out of a 60 Minutes Australia interview when asked about his connection to incels (involuntary celibacy) and he was later banned by YouTube following his arrest on battery charges.
In the last two weeks alone, Peters has faced criminal charges for allegedly shooting a dead alligator in the Florida Everglades and was sued by a teen girl who has accused him of physical and sexual abuse.
What is ‘looksmaxxing’?
“Looksmaxxing” is a controversial internet subculture obsessed with turning the problem of society’s obsession with looks into a mathematical equation that can be solved through ratios, measurements, and often dangerous techniques like injecting black market testosterone, taking methamphetamines as a weight loss drug, and hitting your face with a hammer to increase jaw size.
Peters, known by his followers as Clavicular because of his prominent clavicle, has become the face of the manosphere-adjacent subculture that markets so-called “self improvement” to young men as a way to find success in life and with women — though people have begun pointing out the inherent homoeroticism of “looksmaxxers” who seem to be more concerned with impressing other men than the women they claim they want to have sex with.
Did Clavicular shoot an alligator?
Court records show that Peters is facing criminal charges for allegedly shooting a dead alligator in the Florida Everglades during a March livestream.
The news only came to light on May 6, but charges of reckless discharge of a firearm were quietly filed on April 29 by Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Rundle’s office.
According to court documents, Peters violated Florida law when he “did unlawfully and knowingly discharge a firearm in a public place or on or over the right-of-way of a public paved road, highway, or street, or over occupied premises” at the Everglades and Francis S. Taylor Wildlife Management Area in South Florida, the Miami New Times reported.
Peters is facing up to one year in jail, one year of probation, and a $1,000 fine. He was charged alongside two other people, including Andrew Morales, another streamer nicknamed "The Cuban Tarzan,” who went viral alongside Peters last month when the two men were publicly called out by a group of trans women during a livestream.
A court hearing for the case is scheduled for May 20.
Has Clavicular been accused of sexual assault?
Last week, Peters was sued by Aleksandra Mendoza, who goes by Alorah Ziva and promotes herself as the “#1 female looksmaxxer,” for alleged physical and sexual abuse.
Mendoza alleges that Peters injected her with an "unapproved drug” on a livestream and had nonconsensual sex with her while she was still underage, USA Today reports.
In her lawsuit, Mendoza claims that Peters got her drunk and sexually assaulted her shortly after they began working together when she was 16. Mendoza said that at Peters' home she was served "excessive amounts of alcohol" that caused her to be "inebriated and visibly intoxicated.”
Mendoza then alleges that she and Clavicular had sex when she was too drunk to “give consent” and said that she woke up later to Peters having sex with her again.
The now 18-year-old influencer also alleges that Peters injected her face with the medication Aqualyx during a livestream to "melt fat on her cheeks." Aqualyx is a fat-dissolving medication used to “reduce the appearance of fat to give a smoother, more contoured appearance,” according to Healthline.
Mendoza is asking the court to award her damages for the alleged physical and sexual abuse at the hands of Peters, and has requested a trial by jury.
Has Clavicular ever been arrested before?
Peters was also arrested for battery in March by the Fort Lauderdale Police for allegedly participating in the assault of a young woman.
Osceola County Sheriff's Office officials said Peters and a woman identified as 24-year-old Violet Marie Lentz are both being accused of battery in a case involving a 19-year-old woman at a short-term rental house near Kissimmee, Florida.
Peters allegedly instigated a fight where Lentz battered the 19-year-old, and then he posted the physical altercation on social media to exploit the two women, the sheriff’s office reported.
"Neither Peters nor Lentz came out of the residence to speak to deputies about the incident when they arrived at the house to investigate," the sheriff's office said in a statement, per 6 South Florida. "Detectives from the Osceola Sheriff’s Office completed their investigation after reviewing videos and talking with witnesses."
