Philadelphia's Flashpoint Theatre Company is opening its 2010-2011 season with Run, Mourner, Run, a new play by Tarell Alvin McCraney, one of The Advocate's Forty Under 40 in 2009.
The play, based on a story in out author Randall Kenan's collection Let the Dead Bury Their Dead, tells the story of a young man caught between the two wealthiest men in a small Southern town. Producers note that it reflects the work of "America's "most promising gay black playwright" -- McCraney -- and its "preeminent gay black author," Kenan.
"McCraney is poised to become one of our most important voices," said R. Eric Thomas, playwright and board member of the Brothers' Network, a Philadelphia African-American cultural organization, which is producing the play with Flashpoint.
The production begins previews Wednesday and has its official opening Saturday at the Adrienne Theatre. There will be a reception at 7:15 p.m., with the show at 8 p.m. The run continues through November 20. For tickets go to FlashpointTheatre.org.
