There's an explanation for that long, awkward shot of Penelope Cruz during the Academy Awards broadcast Sunday evening.
When actors Josh Brolin and Javier Bardem came out on the stage to present awards for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Original Screenplay, they did a short dance and then kissed. Instead of showing the actors embrace, however, the camera held on an extended shot of Cruz sitting in the audience.
