Drag queens (and The Advocate!) take over Beverly Center.
The Advocate and World of Wonder hosted a drag-tastic celebration of the LGBTQ community Saturday at Beverly Center in Los Angeles — a media partner in the extravaganza.
The afternoon event kicked off with a “Tea with the Queens" panel moderated by RuPaul's Drag Race judge Carson Kressley with some of America’s favorite queens: Bob the Drag Queen, Violet Chachki, Kim Chi, and Ginger Minj. Each of the queens spilled some tea about their shared experiences on Drag Race and their love for Kressley. Violet shared that Carson, an original cast member on Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, was among her style icons, and Ginger talked about how Carson was the only gay representation she had growing up and would sneak into her room to watch a VHS recording of the Bravo reality series.
After the panel, Ginger performed "I Am What I Am" live. Afterward, there were epic lip-synch numbers: Kim Chi performed Dixie Chicks' "Sin Wagon," Bob the Drag Queen slayed "Over the Rainbow," and Violet closed it out with a burlesque performance of Lemaitre's "Closer."
Hundreds of attendees gathered around Beverly Center’s Grand Court for the celebration and were treated to drag queen makeovers courtesy of Sephora and Vanity Girl Hollywood, specialty small bites and cocktails from Cal Mare, custom drag queen sketches by FIDM illustrators, music by DJ Cottrell Guidry, fun photo activation by Samsung, and more.
