Even in a district Donald Trump won by 30 points last year, a Democrat might beat state Sen. Randy Fine, a lawmaker who has introduced multiple anti-LGBTQ+ bills.
McBride and Chris Hayes explored the significance of her election as the first out transgender member of Congress, a landmark victory amid a divisive election season dominated by ineffective anti-trans ads.
“There is this paradox where a majority of Americans voted for Trump, who is extremely anti-trans, and yet many Americans also voted for out transgender candidates and in favor of LGBTQ rights in referendums,” A4TE executive director Rodrigo Heng-Lehtinen told The Advocate.
In the most comprehensive political survey of LGBTQ+ Americans ever conducted found most respondents – 85% – “always” or “nearly always” voted, compared with roughly a third of the general population.
The advocacy group hopes a $2 million ad buy will attract pro-LGBTQ+ voters to cast their ballots.
The LGBTQ+ civil rights organization announced significant commitment toward engaging voters who care about equal rights, voters the group calls "equality voters."
