The city’s mayor, who is up for reelection, says it’s important for leaders to "feel the pain" of those being affected by Trump’s agenda, including in the LGBTQ+ community.
“I am always so appreciative of those that have actually struggled, those before someone like me, who were the pioneers and were ahead of their time and sacrificed so much,” Chief Larry Scirotto said.
The chief's firing comes after four police officers filed a complaint about his promoting practices with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
