Just 39 percent of people from over 120 countries said that their area was a good place for gay and lesbian people.
Today, over five dozen countries still have laws making same-sex sexual relations illegal. Many of these laws stem from colonial rule.
Authorities have fast-tracked an investigation into what happened as human rights organizations condemn the act.
There are more than 60 places in the world where it’s illegal to be gay.
If passed, the law would have broadened the current law that makes same-sex sexual activity illegal.Â
