Art: Michael J. Hildebrand. For more information read below.
The artist Shungaboy has been featured a few times on this site. We love his strong brushstrokes and bold colors. He told us about a drawing group he founded that has been going for a few years.
“The Men's Naked Drawing Group meets two Tuesdays a month at the Prince St. Project Space, NYC (and on other days in other studios and private homes). It's a sketch group for nudist male artists where artists take turns posing for each other. Many of our members are gay, but we are open to men (including transgender men) regardless of sexual orientation. Our focus is to draw the male figure and depict masculinity in an open-minded, sex-positive nature not found in traditional drawing groups. When both the model and the artist are naked, they are on equal footing, encouraging openness and camaraderie.”
For another view, City University of New York journalists Joshua Futtersak and Barbara Marcolini filmed Shungaboy at his studio and the group at a drawing session at the Prince St. Project Space, part of the Leslie-Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art in New York City.
