Billy Porter, one of the stars of the Tony Award-winning musical Kinky Boots, accepted a Tony for his performance Sunday night and thanked his mother for accepting him for being who he is, even when religious doctrine may not agree.
Though Porter is a Broadway veteran, this was his first nomination and first win, according to the Associated Press.
The show is about a shoe factory that turns its business around by producing footwear for drag queens. Porter plays a man who is plagued by his tumultuous relationship with his father.
