Linda Perry, k.d. lang, Sigur Ros among Grammy nominees
Nominations were announced Thursday for the 46th annual Grammy Awards, and several gay and lesbian artists were represented. Linda Perry received a Song of the Year nomination for "Beautiful," and out producer Peter Rauhofer got a Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical nod for his work on the remixed version of the Christina Aguilera hit. The k.d. lang-Tony Bennett collaboration A Wonderful World is up for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album, while their version of "La Vie en Rose" is a contender for Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals.
Iceland's Sigur Ros, led by out vocalist Jonsi Thor Birgisson, got a Best Alternative Music Album nod for their untitled CD. Bisexual comedian Margaret Cho's Revolution was acknowledged in the Comedy category, while gay-owned record label PS Classics picked up a nomination for Best Musical Show Album for Nine--The Musical. Rorem: Three Symphonies, featuring the work of gay composer Ned Rorem performed by the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, and for Best Classical Album, Best Orchestral Performance, and Best Engineered Album, Classical. And omnisexual rocker and music mogul Ani DiFranco was nominated for Best Packaging for her Evolve album, which she designed with Brian Grunert.
The awards will be presented February 8 in Los Angeles.
