Patricia Nell
Warren, author of The Front Runner, will run
the final 100 meters of the World Outgames Montreal
5,000-meter race on Wednesday, August 2, at 9 a.m. at the
Complexe Claude-Robillard.
The Front Runner, published in 1974, focused on
an ex-marine track coach who falls in love with his top male
athlete. It was the first contemporary gay novel to
make the New York Times best-seller list and has sold
over 10 million copies since its release.
Warren, who is
now 70, was herself a marathon runner. She was one of 12
women who crashed the 1969 Boston Marathon, protesting the
prohibition of female participants in the race. She
later served as the publicity director for the first
two New York City marathons.
Since The
Front Runner, Warren has published six other
works, including Harlan's Race, Billy's Boy,
The Fancy Dancer, The Beauty Queen,
and The Wild Man.
Warren will also
have a book signing in Montreal on Thursday, August 3,
2-3:30 p.m. at the official Outgames Boutique.
