A Delaware representative told a local radio station that although she believes discrimination is wrong, she could possibly support a ban on same-sex marriage.

Rep. Helene Keeley, a Democrat from south Wilmington, voted for a bill to prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation, which passed the house on Thursday.

However, Keeley told WDEL radio that her vote against discrimination does not guarantee that she would also have voted against a ban on same-sex marriage. A proposal to amend the state constitution to ban same-sex marriage was defeated in the senate on Thursday.

"We could have said that you're not allowed to discriminate against purple people, and to me that's what it was," Keeley said. "If you want to have a philosophical conversation about senate bill 27 [the proposal to ban same-sex marriage], I think my views on that are very different than the way I voted."
