The U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals has agreed to a stay on the Prop. 8 decision, keeping same-sex marriages on hold until at least December.
The three-judge panel agreed to expedite a review of U.S. District Judge Vaughn R. Walker's Aug. 4 ruling that overturned Prop. 8.
The panel will hold a hearing the week of Dec. 6, ordering both sides to present arguments on whether the campaign for Proposition 8 has authority to appeal Walker's order.
Plaintiffs can appeal immediately to the Supreme Court, with briefs due August 17.
