Tantrums from a conservative group over rainbow flags aside, the South Carolina Pride parade rolls through the capital of Columbia today.

The Associated Press reports that the parade begins at noon at Assembly and Laurel streets, moves through downtown Columbia, and ends at Finlay Park.

Earlier this week, the Palmetto Family Council decried via press release the rainbow flags hung on city streets to commemorate the week-long festival.

"The flag raised today is symbolic of the city's ongoing and aggressive financial and institutional support of militant homosexual advocacy," the council said in a statement.

According to Palmetto's website, antigay activists had asked city officials to consider flying "flags celebrating one man, one woman marriage" as well. The request was denied.
