A gay British celebrity wellness couple were among those killed in the recent Air India plane crash.
The family of Jamie Ray Greenlaw-Meek confirmed to The Times that the Birmingham man and his husband, Fiongal Greenlaw-Meek, had been returning from a wellness retreat in India but perished in the crash that killed 242 people on board and others on the ground shortly after takeoff on June 12.
Nick Meek, Jamie's brother, said the family was waiting for the couple’s return when news broke of the crash.
“We were expecting him home tonight. He should have landed at 6.30 p.m. and then driven up for about 11 to get his dog who is staying with our Mum,” Nick Meek told the British newspaper. She is not in a good way. It is all very raw for her at the moment. It’s a lot to take in and we only heard this news a couple of hours ago.”
Jamie and Fiongal ran The Wellness Foundry, which was founded in 2018, and offers services ranging from psychic to aura readings, according to The Independent. The news outlet reports that the company has partnered with brands like Dior, Netflix, and Google.
The couple married in 2022.
Before the doomed flight, the couple shared a video from the airport that has since made rounds on social media, including a Breaking Aviation News & Videos account. The couple is seen joking and preparing for a 10-hour flight home. Fiongal in the video asks Jamie his biggest takeaway from the trip, but Jamie stumbles to answer.
“My biggest takeaway is,” Fiongal then says, “don't lose your patience with your partner.”
“You're already starting to really snap to me while we're having chai,” Jamie jokes, “so you’ve learned nothing.”
His husband, laughing in response, closed the video, stating he was “going back, happily, happily calm.”
"As their families, friends and our team are still processing the news of this tragedy, our focus is on supporting each other and our community as we navigate this deeply difficult situation," a statement from The Wellness Foundry reads on Instagram. "Fiongal and Jamie were not only the heart of the company, they were (and still are) deeply loved by our community. We are holding them and all affected by this loss in our hearts. "We are grateful for the outpouring of love and we will share any updates in due course. We ask for privacy for all those concerned during this difficult time."
