Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the California Democrat and a longtime champion for progressive values, has been hospitalized in Luxembourg after sustaining an injury during an official engagement. The 84-year-old Pelosi was traveling with a bipartisan Congressional delegation to mark the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge, one of the pivotal moments in World War II.

Pelosi’s spokesperson, Ian Krager, confirmed Pelosi’s injury and subsequent hospitalization in a statement.

“Speaker Emerita Pelosi is currently receiving excellent treatment from doctors and medical professionals,” Krager said. “She continues to work and regrets that she is unable to attend the remainder of the CODEL engagements to honor the courage of our servicemembers during one of the greatest acts of American heroism in our nation’s history.”

The circumstances around her injury and details of her condition remain unclear.

Krager noted that Pelosi’s participation in the trip was deeply personal. Her uncle, Johnny, served in World War II, and she expressed gratitude to the people of Luxembourg and Bastogne for their contributions to securing peace in Europe.

The statement emphasized Pelosi’s appreciation for the sacrifices of American servicemembers.

Pelosi is expected to return to the United States “soon,” but no specific timeline has been provided.
