Zach Wahls

Zach Wahls is an LGBT activist and the son of two lesbians who has risen to fame as an activist in recent years. Zach Wahls was conceived using artificial insemination to his biological mother and her partner in Iowa more than 20 years ago. Following the Iowa Supreme Court decision in Varnum v. Brien that invalidated the state's ban on same-sex marriage, he wrote an op-ed piece in the Des Moines Register, which eventually led to him addressing the Iowa House Judiciary Committee in a public hearing on a proposed constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage in Iowa in 2011.
