"The State of Marriage"
The State of Marriage highlights the work of three lawyers who helped lay the foundation for national marriage equality — Mary Bonauto, Beth Robinson, and Susan Murray — through their work in Vermont, the first state to grant same-sex couples legal recognition through civil unions and the first to enact marriage equality through legislative action. Directed by Jeff Kaufman and produced by Marcia S. Ross, the documentary also features Freedom to Marry founder Evan Wolfson, civil rights legend Rep. John Lewis, and Tony-winning playwright Terrence McNally. The film will screen Thursday at 7 p.m. at New York’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Community Center, followed by a panel discussion moderated by Michelangelo Signorile and featuring Murray, Kaufman, Ross, famed lawyer Roberta Kaplan, and Marty Rouse of the Human Rights Campaign. Kaplan's most famous client, Edie Windsor, is expected to be in the house. The doc is also available on iTunes and Video on Demand beginning Tuesday. Find out more here and watch the trailer below.
