Dallas Morning News columnist Jane Sumner reports that out filmmaker Jamie Babbit (But I'm a Cheerleader) will direct the thriller Dot as part of a University of Texas film school program that allows students to get hands-on experience in the making of low-budget features. Dot, written by Michah Schraft and Abdi Nazemian (Beautiful Girls), tells the story of a deaf orphan teenager and what happens when she moves in with a seemingly typical family. The University of Texas program will also produce films directed by Zalman King and Carlos Carrera.
