Another Broadway show bites the dust, with Hairspray announcing that it is leaving Las Vegas on June 11, according to Playbill.com.

The closing of the Tony-winning show, which has been playing at the Luxor Las Vegas since February 6, follows the May closing of Avenue Q at the Wynn Casino. Both shows were trimmed for fidgety Vegas audiences and closed due to lackluster ticket sales.

Coproducers Michael Gill and Myron Martin gathered together the Hairspray cast and crew a half-hour before the curtain went up on Monday to give them the news. "We have nothing but the greatest admiration for this remarkable cast and crew, who never failed to deliver a wonderful performance every time they took the stage," Martin told Playbill.com. "We will truly miss their incredible talent."

The Vegas Hairspray starred gay actor Harvey Fierstein as Edna Turnblad, but Fierstein played out only his three-month contract before being replaced. (The Advocate)
