9. DVD: Johnny Guitar

The offscreen friction between Oscar-winning screen greats Joan Crawford and Mercedes McCambridge, who referred to her costar as a "rotten egg lady," was so intense that it helped give their scenes a vivid lesbian subtext on-screen in Nicholas Ray's unforgettable 1954 western, an analogy for the McCarthy witch hunt of the 1950s.
