Sometimes the rest of the world is as crazy as the White House. A German spy (and former gay porn star) is on trial for treason. The charges? Frequenting a jihadi chat room, where he offered to provide information to potential terrorists.
The suspect, arrested in November 2016 by the German Domestic Security Agency, is a 52-year-old-father of four. When caught by authorities, he confessed to having secretly converted to Islam two years before the arrest and was infiltrating the Agency to carry out "Allah's will" reports The Daily Beast. When police searched his apartment, they found the suspect had starred in numerous gay porn videos under the same pseudonym he used in jihadi chat rooms.
According to The Washington Post, those who've interviewed him believe he may have psychological ailments, including multiple personality disorder. He was originally released because he lacked plans for a terrorist attack or connections to radical Islamist organizations.
"I never met with any Islamists. I would never do that. The whole thing was like a game," the suspect claimed at the beginning of his trial for treason, reports DPA news agency. Although he felt his job as a spy was "a lot of fun" he became bored during his weekends, and pretended to be a radical Muslim terrorist online to "escape from reality."
However, the suspect did make arrangements to meet with Islamists in real life, including at a gym, and offered to help attack his agency's headquarters in Cologne because it was "in line with Allah's will."
During the trial, he said he never intended to go through with any of his digital promises.
