A $14 million,
five-year federal grant to the University of South
Florida's Center for HIV Education and Research will
allow the organization to continue and expand a
program that trains health workers to offer
top-quality HIV care, TheTampa Tribune reports. The program has trained
more than 100,000 health care providers in Florida,
Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands since
launching in 2002. Michael Knox, the center's
director, says the program is necessary to keep up
with rapid developments in HIV treatment. He notes
that U.S. federal HIV treatment guidelines have changed 49
times during the past eight years.
