Republican senator Larry Craig is back in court, this time in an attempt to rescind the guilty plea he issued after his 2007 arrest in a men's bathroom sex-sting operation, Reuters reports.
Craig was arrested in the men's bathroom of the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport when he allegedly attempted to solicit sex with an undercover cop. The three-term Idaho senator initially pleaded guilty, but his attorneys now say that there was not enough evidence to prove his guilt. The disorderly conduct charge is a misdemeanor.
Prosecutor Christopher Renz countered that the complaint and Craig's initial guilty plea should be sufficient enough to put this case to rest before urging members of the jury not to allow Craig to take back his guilty plea. He also argued Craig's behavior at the time was part of a pattern. (Michelle Garcia, The Advocate)
