Despite mounting pressure, one of the nation's leading evangelical figures has yet to condemn an bill before the Ugandan parliament that calls for the death penalty for so-called acts of "aggravated homosexuality."

In a recent Twitter post via ThinkProgress, Rick Warren writes, "Globally last yr 146,000 Christians were put to death because of their faith. No one, except Christians, said anything."

The tweet referred to Warren's Sunday appearance on NBC's Meet the Press, where he refused to outright condemn a bill sponsored by a Ugandan politician and member of a conservative religious group known as the Family.

"The fundamental dignity of every person, our right to be free, and the freedom to make moral choices are gifts endowed by God, our creator. However, it is not my personal calling as a pastor in America to comment or interfere in the political process of other nations," Warren said on Meet the Press.
