Speaking on CNN, Democratic congressman Andre Carson -- a friend and colleague of South Bend, Ind., mayor Pete Buttigieg -- acknowledged the presidential candidate has "diversity issues."

CNN's Alison Camerota noted that when she recently interviewed Buttigieg he acknowledged the "lack of diversity" at many of his campaign events. Camerota asked Carson, who represents an Indianapolis district in the House, if he was concerned by the dearth of people of color around Buttigieg.

While calling Buttigieg "a friend" and "formidable," Carson said, "He needs more diversity, that includes his team, that includes folks who work for him, that includes the contracts in which he issues, and so we're willing to help and there are folks willing to help him with his diversity issues. We just have to have a sit-down about it."

Carson closed by saying he's very proud of Buttigieg and the candidate makes him "beam with joy." Watch below.
