Almost a year since Connecticut's marriage equality law took effect, more than 1,700 gay and lesbian couples have married in the state.

Figures from the state Department of Public Health vital statistics show that 75% of Connecticut's same-sex marriage licenses were issued to couples who live outside of the state.

Barbara Lowden, the assistant registrar of vital statistics for Greenwich, told the New Haven Register that only 16 of the 242 marriage licenses issued in the town went to in-state gay couples. She said it's mostly because Greenwich is the first city New Yorkers hit when headed into the state.

My partner (now spouse) and I were married in Connecticut in June by a wonderful, compassionate Justice of the Peace. All the folks in the Town Hall in Greenwich were extremely accomodating. Thanks to all the people of the State of Connecticut who made something possible we thought we would never experience in our lifetimes.
