Kansas's Problem With Gay Sex

Two Kansas politicians refuse to allow legislation that would
align the state's criminal code with the U.S. Supreme Court ruling that decriminalized
consensual gay sex.
The Kansas Equality Coalition reports that state representatives Jan Pauls, a Democrat, and Lance Kinzer, a Republican, removed language from a bill that "would have resolved inconsistencies in Kansas criminal code, as well as remove unconstitutional laws." The Kansas Judicial Council requested the change in language, which would removed the last law on Kansas's books that criminalized gay sexual relations. All gay sex laws were struck down by the Supreme Court's 2003 decision in Lawrence v. Texas.
“Representative Pauls’ endorsement of an unconstitutional statute that’s used to threaten and discriminate against law-abiding Kansas citizens is an outrage,” said Thomas Witt, state chairman for the Kansas Equality Coalition. "Legislators who willfully ignore the Constitution should never be in positions of leadership and responsibility.”
