The documentary Billie Jean King: Portrait of a Pioneer premieres on HBO on Wednesday, April 26, at 10 p.m. Eastern, with various repeat viewings over the next few weeks. The film examines King's massive impact on the worlds of sports, gender, and sexuality, from her legendary "Battle of the Sexes" triumph over male tennis champ Bobby Riggs to the "galimony" suit filed against her by a female former lover. Rare footage and archival photos are backed by revealing interviews with Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova, Elton John, Frank Deford, life partner Ilana Kloss, ex-husband Larry King, and with King herself speaking openly and honestly about her life on and off the court.
