Darren Star--the gay TV mogul behind Sex and the City and Melrose Place--will next remake the darkly funny British sitcom Nighty Night for Showtime, reports Variety. The show will mark the first time since 2000's Grosse Pointe that Star will both write and executive-produce. Oxygen is currently airing the original version of the show, about a beauty salon owner (played by series creator Julia Davis) who may be the most self-centered person on earth: In the first scene of the show's pilot, for instance, she learns that her husband is dying of a terminal disease; in the second scene, she visits a dating service. The show will be produced by Sony Pictures Television, where Star is based. (The Advocate)
