Ted Cruz is projected to best Beto O'Rourke to maintain his seat in the U.S. Senate.

The Hill reports that the Republican incumbent has been elected to a second term as a Texas senator. His challenger, O'Rourke, is a youthful politician who had energized Texas Democrats like no other (except maybe legendary governor Ann Richards).

Though Texas hasn't elected a Democrat statewide in over two decades, many hoped that the progressive O'Rourke might break this streak. Read about Ernest Clark, a gay man who worked to put the Democrat over the top.
