In a Heartbeat, the animated short about a middle-school same-sex crush so intense that it causes a boy's heart to leap from his chest, has captured the hearts of millions. As of this writing, it has been played more than 21 million times. Beth David and Esteban Bravo — a lesbian and a gay man — created the film as their thesis at Ringling College of Art & Design in Florida.
