AIDS service providers in the New Orleans area are set to receive $7.3 million in federal Ryan White Act money, an increase of about $500,000 over 2004 levels, The Times-Picayune reports. The increase is based on a complex formula used by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services that takes into account a region's population, its number of AIDS cases in the area, and other factors. The total Ryan White allocation for the entire state of Louisiana this year is $23 million, a small increase over 2004 funding levels, state health officials say.
