More than 5,000 people participated in the annual AIDS Run and Walk Chicago on September 17, which raised more than $200,000 for the AIDS Foundation of Chicago's grant-making program, the Chicago Free Press reports. About $20,000 will be donated to the National AIDS Emergency Fund, which is helping to assist HIV-positive people forced to evacuate the Gulf Coast due to Hurricane Katrina. The remainder will be issued by AFC to Chicago-area AIDS service organizations. AFC has distributed more than $15 million to AIDS groups since 1988. (Advocate.com)
