Kathleen DeBold,
executive director of the National Lesbian Health
Organization's Mautner Project, is being honored by Women's
eNews as one of its "21 Leaders for the 21st
Century." DeBold is the only out lesbian honoree.
The 21 leaders
were picked for their dedication to improving the lives of
women in the home, in the media, in the workplace, and in
schools. DeBold works to ensure that lesbian,
bisexual, and transgender women receive equal access
to health care and that they are not discriminated against
because of sexual orientation or economic status.
DeBold has helped
the Mautner Project evolve from a local health group
focusing on supporting lesbians with cancer to a national
health advocacy program that strives to improve the
lives of women through research and direct
services.
The 21 women will
be honored in New York City at the Women's eNews Gala
at the Tavern on the Green, May 22.
