San Francisco's health officials will keep open two federally funded HIV prevention programs that were in jeopardy of ending. An audit by the city controller's office recommended the Department of Public Health take over TRANS, a drop-in center and referral center to substance abuse programs, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

City supervisors must approve spending $150,000 to finance the program through October, when a federal grant of $400,000 would kick in to finance its fifth year of operation, according to the Chronicle.

Meanwhile, the University of California, San Francisco, said it will continue to run a second program, called the Transitions Project, which is funded by a $500,000-a-year grant from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The Transitions Project develops HIV prevention programs for neighborhood organizations around the country that are brought to transgender people. (The Advocate)
