Mary Cheney and Girlfriend Dine at White House

It was the lesbian couple's first major White House social event together.

A diverse crowd showed up for Wednesday night's lavish White House dinner honoring newlyweds Prince Charles and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall. First daughter Jenna Bush brought her boyfriend, and Mary Cheney brought her girlfriend. It was the lesbian couple's first major White House social event together, according to TheWashington Post. The extremely private Cheney and her longtime partner, Heather Poe, made news last year when they were photographed together at the Republican National Convention in New York. Poe also sat in the Cheney family box. America Online recently announced that it has hired Cheney to assist in managing the advertising, e-commerce, and search engines, which are considered AOL's core functions. Cheney's resume includes heading up a gay and lesbian outreach program for Coors Brewing Co. and running operations in the reelection campaign of her father, Vice President Dick Cheney. She received a graduate business degree from the University of Denver. Guests dined on a four-course menu--the debut of new White House chef Cristeta Comerford--featuring celery-and-shrimp soup, buffalo medallions and salad, with petits fours and chartreuse ice cream for dessert. Afterward, there was music by cellist Yo-Yo Ma and dancing. Camilla sat next to a tuxedo-clad President Bush, smiling warmly as the president and the prince exchanged toasts to the U.S.-British relationship. Among the better-known dinner guests were former first lady Nancy Reagan, accompanied by television producer Merv Griffin; former NFL star Lynn Swann; newly installed Supreme Court chief justice John Roberts; and Lt. Gen. Russel L. Honore, the military coordinator in the Gulf Coast region following Hurricane Katrina. (Advocate.com/AP)
