The personnel
board of Scottsdale, Ariz., voted unanimously Monday to
recommend that the city provide antidiscrimination
protections for LGBT people.
According to a
report from The Arizona Republic, the proposed
addition of LGBT people to Scottsdale's
nondiscrimination ordinance met little resistance at the
hearing. Two other proposed additions to the
city's nondiscrimination ordinance would require
Scottsdale businesses and contractors to offer the same
protections from discrimination that the city will offer.
Scottsdale
already prohibits discrimination based on race, color,
religion, sex, national origin, age, and physical
disability. If the personnel board's recommendations
are approved by the city council on December 4, the
city will add sexual orientation and gender identity to
its list of protected classes of people. (The
