The personnel board of Scottsdale, Ariz., voted unanimously Monday to recommend that the city provide antidiscrimination protections for LGBT people.

According to a report from The Arizona Republic, the proposed addition of LGBT people to Scottsdale's nondiscrimination ordinance met little resistance at the hearing. Two other proposed additions to the city's nondiscrimination ordinance would require Scottsdale businesses and contractors to offer the same protections from discrimination that the city will offer.

Scottsdale already prohibits discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, and physical disability. If the personnel board's recommendations are approved by the city council on December 4, the city will add sexual orientation and gender identity to its list of protected classes of people.
