The Equality Act, which would federally ban anti-LGBTQ discrimination, passed the House of Representatives on Friday, heading to the Senate next.

Model and activist Nyle DiMarco recently filmed a video for the Human Rights Campaign urging the full passage of the legislation. DiMarco, who advocates for both LGBTQ and deaf causes, signed an eloquent message about the need for federal protections.

"With protection, we can live our lives without worrying about the double impact of experiencing discrimination and/or hate crimes," DiMarco signed. "But we know the government will not protect us because there is no Equality Act. We are currently tiptoeing on American soil... no one's rights should be determined by which state they live in."
