Jody Trautwein, the Alabama minister who tries to talk Sacha Baron Cohen's character to become "ex-gay" in the movie Bruno, is now one of 14 candidates vying for the job of mayor of Birmingham, the Associated Press reports.

Trautwein, the former director of Alabama Coalition Against Same-Sex Marriage, says he hasn't seen the movie -- in which Cohen's character compliments him on his "blow-job lips," and Trautwein responds, "these lips were made to praise Jesus."

Nevertheless, he told the Birmingham News that the resulting 15 minutes of fame have "turned into a tremendous plus. ... I was able to share my message. I used it as a platform. It turned into a tremendously positive experience. People know that I stay true to myself."

The nonpartisan election for mayor is Tuesday, and a runoff will be held January 19 if no candidate wins a majority of the votes. The candidates are hoping to replace Larry Langford, a Bible study leader himself, who was booted from office in October and awaits sentencing for taking $236,000 in bribes.
