Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel granted an interview recently to gay magazine Outlook Columbus and said he would welcome an openly gay player into his powerhouse team.
According to Fanhouse, which reports on the interview, the conversation is a first between a Division I football coach and a gay publication. In it, Tressel, who is active in Christian groups, sounds warm to the idea of coaching a gay player.
"We try to tell our guys that an authentic you is the best you," Tressel said, according to Fanhouse. "That's truly what freedom means, and the beauty of living in America. People can live their beliefs."
