Hoping to encourage movement on the repeal of "don't ask, don't tell," the gay advocacy group GetEQUAL is protesting at President Obama's appearance in Los Angeles on Monday.

Obama is in the city to raise money for the reelection of California's Democratic senator Barbara Boxer. The president, landing in the city around 3 p.m. Pacific time, will then helicopter to the California Science Center, near downtown Los Angeles. There, the GetEQUAL protest will greet him in time for the start of the 4:30 p.m. fund-raiser.

Lesbian activist Robin McGehee is expected to lead the protest, the aim of which is to put pressure on the president to include the DADT repeal in the defense authorization budget bill that will soon be sent to Congress. While the president has committed to repealing the ban on openly gay service members, GetEQUAL is concerned that the repeal may not happen this year.
