Cardinal Norberto Rivera denounced the Supreme Court of Mexico for upholding a Mexico City marriage equality law in a statement that called the ruling "aberrant" and "immoral."
According to the Associated Press, "The Roman Catholic archbishop said it was wrong to go against Christian doctrine that recognizes only marriages between a man and a woman.
"The church cannot fail to call evil evil," said Rivera.
In an 8-2 vote last Thursday, the Supreme Court upheld the marriage equality law passed by the state legislature. The federal government had challenged the law.
