Modern Family, the Emmy award-winning ABC sitcom, was praised for its emphasis on diversity at the Gay, Lesbian ,and Straight Education Network's Respect Awards in Los Angeles Friday.
The sixth annual event was attended by show cast members as well as Dustin Lance Black, Chloe Sevigny, Rachel Zoe, and Brad Goreski, among other luminaries.
In light of the wave of recent news reports on suicides of gay or questioning teens who were subjected to bullying, Modern Family's Jesse Tyler Ferguson told the Associated Press, "I do have the same sort of mixed feeling, in the light of everything that's happened. However, I think an event like this echoes the sentiment that we need to change. This cannot continue happening."
