A California man was arrested on board an Atlantis cruise ship in the U.S. Virgin Islands on suspicion of selling drugs to passengers, according to the Associated Press.
Steven Barry Krumholz, 51, was arrested while on board the Allure of the Seas while it was docked in St. Thomas, according to Jeffrey Quinones, a spokesman in Puerto Rico for U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
Acording to the AP, Customs and Border Protection agents boarded the ship Wednesday and found drugs on another passenger, who said he had purchased them from Krumholz before the trip and picked them up while on board.
Agents who searched Krumholz's cabin reported finding more than 140 ecstasy pills, nearly three grams of methamphetamine, a small quantity of ketamine and about $51,000 in cash. While waiting for the suspect in his cabin, two more passengers came to buy drugs, according to agents.
Krumholz was detained on charges of possession with intent to sell.
"Atlantis guests are informed of, and expected to adhere to, all of the cruise line's regulations along with the laws of its host countries," a spokesperson for the company told The Advocate in a statement via email. "They are fully advised of all policies and customs laws in advance of sailing. Atlantis fully supports Royal Caribbean's policies and works closely to enforce them."
The Royal Caribbean ship "Allure of the Seas" set sail from Port Everglades, Florida, on Feb. 6. Billed as the largest gay cruise ever, Atlantis announced last week it will repeat the trip in 2012.
